Lost In The World Of Article Submission?

There are hundreds of theories on what makes the internet tick. How will one consumer find you on this big thing called the Web? Any webmaster knows that it is the most important element to finding and keeping traffic flowing to their website. Yet, it is not always all that easy of a problem to solve. Let’s face it, there are hundreds of webmasters out there trying to do the same thing that you are. So, you have competition beyond reason.

Although it is quite difficult for you to get your website traffic up if you don’t know how, if you do, then it’s rather simple. There are many benefits to you from simply writing and submitting articles to article submission websites. This simple process can generate a steady flow of traffic unlike any other. It is quite amazing the results that you can get from this very easy process. Here are some more details for you to consider about article submission.

First, understand how it all works. You write an article, presumably about your product, service or website. Normally, you will want to insure that it is writing without the suggestion of, Come here. I’ve got a great sale for you. This type of article will most likely not be used or it will not even be allowed into publishing. The article should be crafted surrounding whatever is going to pull your customer in. The goal is to have them click and locate you.

At the bottom of your article, you will use a resource box to include your information. Who you are and what you can do for the customer. You will also have the most powerful part of the entire article there. That is of course your website link.

All of this is submitted to an article submission website which will then publish it. Anyone who wants to can pick up your article and place it onto their own website. When they do this, they are required to use the entire article and the resource box on their website. That means that now your website link is on every website out there of every person that picks up your article. This could literally be thousands and thousands of websites.

So, now that you have your articles written and submitted, you can count on receiving some traffic. The more well written the article is, the more attractive it is for other webmasters, the more it will be picked up and used. That means more and more back links to your website. This is of course an excellent way to insure traffic to your website.

When you take this to the next level, article submission really can translate into a lot of traffic. For example, now that you have written one well written article and got some action off of it, you are ready to do this again and again. That’s because you can write any article and get the same results. So, now you don’t just have one article out there generating traffic for you, but you have five, ten, or twenty doing the work for you.

Article submission websites are an excellent way for you to generate traffic to your website. You probably will not find a better location to find such a virtually free way of getting your website out there. It really makes a lot of sense and it’s quite simple.

Chasing the Wild Unicorn: How to Find your Unique Writer’s Voice

Finding your unique writing style and voice is much like chasing a wild unicorn. You can’t do it! The harder you look, the further away it gets. You have to let it come to you. Here is some advice on how to let it come to you.

Writing presents a bit of a dilemma to people in that it is much like many other pursuits yet it is much different than other pursuits. Let me explain. A musician achieves his or her own style of play after long hours and years of practice. The same holds true for a martial artist, or any other type of pursuit that has a physical component but writing really has nothing to do with the physical component. It is all about the thinking process.

For a musician or athlete, after the hundreds of hours of practice the movements settle into a deeper part of the performer’s brain and become automatic, even second nature. This is often called being in the zone and it frees the performer to make the motions of his chosen art or craft without thinking about it. This is mastery and the same holds true for writers but there is no physical component to examine. You can’t say “Wow, I can write words and letters without thinking about it” because the physical component of writing is not what you are trying to master. It is the thought process and the way you examine and express your thoughts that are what goes into the craft of writing. When reading your own writing the same dilemma applies. You can’t look at your writing and see how nicely you formed the letters and words. It’s irrelevant. Again you have to think about it and examine how well you expressed what you were seeking to express.

So, how do you “find” your unique writing voice and style?

You do it the same way a musician or martial artist does. You practice. Then you practice some more. Focus on the practice and your style will slowly appear. The way you think will change and the way you express will also change as writing slowly sinks into a deeper part of your brain.

Here is a suggested path to becoming a black belt in writing

I suggest you write something. Then put it aside and write something else. Then go back and read what you wrote, and re-write it. Then put it aside. A few days or weeks later go back and read it again then edit it and re-write it again.

You probably get the picture here. The only way to find your unique voice is to write a whole lot. A musician doesn’t play a composition just a few times. He goes over it and over it time and again. And with time he feels the music and starts to see variations in the composition. It is through this that his unique voice comes through. As a writer you need to do the same thing. Write, write, write, and then write some more. Then go over it, and go over it, and go over it again. Through this practice you will start to see variations and the unicorn that is you will come through.

Rambling Thoughts on Trusting Our Readers

I′ve been thinking lately of trust. All of us presumably join a writer’s group to mingle with other writers and share thoughts on our work. We want to read and be read. We want to share our excitement when a piece is picked up and published, no matter how small the publisher may be. We want to be told when something isn’t working in our latest piece and we want to trust our readers to tell us the truth.

Do we trust our readers to tell us the truth as well as they can? Do we trust them when they say, “Your work is good,” but not when they say, “Your work needs work.” Or vice-versa.

I once gave a perfect rate and a ribbon to a piece I thought deserved it. To my mind, it was very good, finished and I would buy it. The author didn’t trust my opinion and so took away the joy I felt. My ego was hurt, but I think I understand, I’m trying to anyway. He didn’t respond so I have to guess. I came up with two possible reasons.

1. He felt I was giving a fluff review. Maybe he has received so many of these that he didn’t trust any reader who told him he was a good writer.

2. He has received some very harsh comments with no explanations or encouragement to sooth his self-esteem. And he believes them.

Many writers, who are convinced their work stinks, choose to trust only the negative comments.

Some, who are convinced their work is always perfect, choose to not trust a reader who says otherwise.

A writer’s self-confidence partially depends on being able to trust the readers of his group to tell him what they think – truthfully, gently and with encouragement. But, to depend on or blame readers for the state of our own confidence is placing an impossible burden on them.

Find a writers group who you can trust to tell you the truth. They should be able to do it constructively so it doesn’t hurt too much. Search the web or better yet, come and look over Writers.Com - it’s a community of writers who know how it feels to be on the receiving end of the deadly red pen, and they try very hard to soften the blows. They really do. You can trust them to be honest and gentle.

Above all, enjoy your journey and have fun learning. Always Write On!

Approving 1000 Articles a Day on Online Article Submission Sites

If you are an online article writer or an online article marketer you might be amazed that there is actually a few online article submission web site’s which approve over at 1000 articles per day? Can you imagine that amount of volume? That is truly intense. A thousand articles a day, you would be hard-pressed to simply read the titles. We are talking a lot of manpower there to get it all done.

How does an online article submission site approve 1000 articles per day? Well, they must break it down into probably about five people and each person must read or at least scan 200 articles each. This probably takes about four to eight hours. If the article is proper for the web site then it is approved. If it is not then it is not approved.

In this day and age of blog spammers or Sploggers, it must be rather aggravating to go through all the BS pretend articles to get to the actual 1000 acceptable articles. Any online article submission site that can handle an average of 1000 articles per day should be your personal hero if you use online article marketing in your business to attract targeted traffic.

All online article authors and online article marketers should give an atta boy to those online article submission sites, that are able to handle that level of intense submissions each day. Please consider this in 2006.

Simultaneous Article Submission

Do you know the difference between simultaneous article submissions and multiple submissions?

This is something that trips up new writers, and some more seasoned individuals.

A travel writer I knew sent the same feature length article to two leading newspapers without letting the editors know. Unfortunately, both publications printed the article on the same day. What do you think this does to your reputation?

Immediately the writer’s name was put on the list of unreliable contributors and she received a “do not send articles to us again” letter.

Simultaneous

Simultaneous submissions relates to sending the same article to more than one publication. The word means at the same time; synchronised, concurrent, coinciding.

Please read this next paragraph carefully, because it will make a big difference to your success.

It is impossible to send the same article or exactly the same idea to more than one magazine because each article or idea should be specifically targeted to a particular publication. The same article will not perfectly fit into both Magazine X and Magazine Y, as each publication has its own style and readership.

Multiple

Multiple submissions relates to sending a query that consists of more than one idea, or sending more than one article, at the same time, to the same publication. The word means having several or many parts, elements or individual components.

A problem with multiple submissions is you cannot copyright an idea. The way to ensure your ideas cannot be poached is to write a substantial synopsis. Four or five paragraphs in your query letter will constitute a “substantial” description.

For this reason it may not be practical to submit one query to an editor that contained four ideas as the letter/email would be long and this may result in a rejection because the editor simply didn′t have enough time to read the query.

In this case it is best to restrict your query to one or two ideas, so you can showcase them properly.

Article Writing - Using the “How to Survive” Article Writing Template to Write More Articles

Article writing can be much easier and you can write many more articles when you use article writing templates. One of my favorite templates is the “How to Survive″ article writing template. Read on to discover how to use this article writing template.

Remember the famous self-help book of several years ago “How to Survive the Loss of a Love?” I believe one of the reasons it was so popular was it met a need by giving the “how to.” You can do the same thing with your articles.

Here are a few title examples -

Title Examples:

How to Survive the Lose of a Love How to Survive Bankruptcy How to Survive a Stressful Day

How to Survive a Difficult Boss

Here’s the outline of the “How to Survive Template″

The Template

What to do next

So let’s get started. Choose a topic from your niche, preferably something negative that happens often in the world of your ideal client.

Define what needs t o be survived. Agitate the problem a bit so your reader will know that you understand what they are struggling with. You can even tell a story about how you once struggled with the same thing. You can also give a case study example of someone you have helped with the same struggle.

That’s really all there is to it.

Bonus tip - You can also then take each of your tips and write an article about each tip.

Save Time When You Write

I’m in the process of moving from one computer to another, and one of the things I really miss so far is a good keystroke macro program.

That’s a program, a communication technology, that allows you to trigger long strings of text, including names and email addresses, with just a couple of keystrokes.

For example, I often have to write out the name of my book, A Manager’s Guide to Newsletters: Communicating for Results. With a macro, I simply type “mgx” (without the quotation marks) to write out the first half of the title (up to the colon), or “mgc” to write out the full title.

If you’ve used them yourself, you know how handy it is to be able to have shortcuts to commonly-used pieces of text (also called boilerplate).

Almost every kind of writing uses commonly-repeated words and names, and once you get used to using macros, they save a lot of time that would otherwise be spent hammering on the keyboard.

They’re especially useful for snippets of text that involve hard- to-reach characters on the keyboard. For example, when you type an email address, you have to reach to the upper left corner of the screen to hit the “@” key. So, I have macros for commonly used email addresses: “abcx” for “mailto:abbottr@managersguide.com abbottr@managersguide.com” and “ralx” for “mailto:robert@abbottletter.com robert@abbottletter.com”

As the latter macro suggests, it helps to have a shortcut that resembles the text that will be written out. You can also use keyboard function keys or combinations of keystrokes as your shortcuts, whatever works best for you.

It’s also helpful, if you don’t already have shortcuts or macros, to start with a few and add them slowly. That way you don’t have to think about them each becomes well established in your memory. In my experience, if you have to stop and look for the shortcut, you′ve probably lost much of the advantage that’s gained by using them.

In the same vein, consider boilerplate email messages. I use the Eudora email program, which calls them ’stationery’ and makes their use relatively easy. In this case, you’re not just shortcutting a word or phrase — you’re shortcutting an entire email message. Some other email programs allow you to do the same sort of thing.

To create a piece of stationery, simply open a new email message form and put in your return address, the subject line, and the text of the message. Then save it as a stationery file in an appropriate folder. When you need to send that message again, simply get a copy from the folder, insert the address of the person you want to contact, and click the Send button.

You could, of course, do essentially the same thing with a macro program, but it’s faster and easier if your email program lets you create these boilerplate messages.

I use stationery messages for routine thank-yous, for follow-ups on various projects, and for responding to certain types of inquiries. You wouldn’t use them for important messages or messages requiring a personalized response.

However you do it, the important thing is to use boilerplate tools when you can. They’re one of the easiest and most effective tools for time-efficient writing.

Defining Your Title

When I write a book, I have a general title in mind. I do not completely decide until the last pages are written and the last diagrams are in place. The reason for this is I may change the slant of the book during the writing process and therefore the original title will no longer match. If you are about to write a How to book on marketing, you must first decide who your audience is. After this, find a simple title that defines what you are trying to tell them, make it appealing to that market. This is one of the first steps. The second step is to make sure it is very professional. Even as I say this, there are some books out there that have truly silly titles that work. I like to have a professional air about my books because I want people to know that I am serious about my subject matter. Just remember that you will not likely finalize your title until you have finished the writing.

The title should also contain something that is memorable. I like the Guerrilla series because they use the same Guerrilla in each title then add the topic of the book. In my new book series, I use Blueprint. This means I am not stuck with a one shot in the dark title. I can then create many blueprints for various topics. Do some exploring at bookstores and see what titles catch your attention, then try to create a title of your own.

The title of a book will really entice a reader. You have to make it catchy yet professional. I still have a hard time with the Dummies series but I do own some as they are excellent. I would rather have my audience be happy to display my titles.

Writing for Magazine Publication: Increasing Your Odds

Writing for magazine publication can seem like a daunting task. Whether you write fiction, nonfiction, poetry, or other, there’s a lot of competition out there. And every magazine only has so many spaces to fill every year.

But, while getting something you’ve written published in a magazine can be a challenge, it isn’t impossible.

Know What They Want

Sending a story or article to a magazine when there’s no chance they will actually publish it is a waste of time and money (postage). Before you send a manuscript to a magazine, find out what that magazine wants. Then, you’ll at least know what you send them stands a chance.

You can find the writer’s guidelines for many publications online, either at the magazine’s website, or in a writer’s guideline database.

You can also send for writer’s guidelines by mail. Just address your letter to the submissions or manuscript editor, and include a self-addressed stamped envelope with your request.

Read the Magazine

Reading writer’s guidelines is a good start. But they don’t always give you the complete picture. The guidelines might say a magazine will accept movie reviews. But only by reading the magazine will you get a feel for the tone and style the magazine is looking for. Do they want serious, formal reviews? Or do they prefer more informal, humorous reviews?

Visiting a magazine’s website will give you an idea of the kind of material they publish. But you should also try to read a recent copy of the actual magazine.

If you can′t find a magazine at your local newsstand, you can often request a sample copy from the publishers. For some sample copies, you’ll have to pay the postage, and maybe the cover price of the magazine. Other sample copies won′t cost anything but the price of the stamp on your request.

Write for Free

Some magazines don’t pay contributors. Instead, you might receive copies of the issue your story or article appears in.

While writing for free might not seem to make much sense, it’s often easier for writers to find success with these non-paying markets. And later, when you send submissions or query letters to paying markets, the fact that you′ve been published in other magazines will work in your favor.

But even non-paying publications receive plenty of submissions, and you′ll still be competing against plenty of other writers. So, you should still put your best foot forward when making a submission to these magazines.

Writing for magazine publication is definitely a challenge. But if you learn the tricks of the trade, you will drastically increase your chances of finding success.

Article Marketing - How to Use a Powerful 3 Tier Approach to Submitting and Marketing Your Articles

Q: I′ve recently started submitting articles in my niche as a relationship coach. While I′ve been blogging for a little while, I′m really green when it comes to submitting articles. So here is my main questions - Are there particular article directories you’d recommend?

A: I use and recommend a three tier approach to submitting my articles.

Tier One - EzineArticles - The biggest, the best, and you get the most traffic from EzineArticles. You want to get as many articles as you possibly can up on EzineArticles. Visiting their blog on a regular basis is a good thing to do as well.

Tier Two - Other high ranking article directories - The next step you want to take is to submit a variety of your articles to the next level of higher ranked Article Directories. All the addresses for the following Article Directories end in “dot com” -

ArticlesOn GoArticles ArticleHub ArticleMarketerThese directories all have a high Alexa ranking, which measures the amount of traffic a web site receives. Tier Three - Niche Article Directories - Next you want to submit your articles to niche directories that specialize in articles in your niche. For you, as a relationship coach, I’d recommend FreeCoachingArticles.com and ConsciousRelationshipArticles.com Another way to find article directories in your niche is to go to Google or Yahoo or your other favorite search engine, type in your keywords followed by the phrase “article directory.”

So you would type in “relationship article directory.” Check out the results you get and consider submitting your articles to a few of these as well.

Take this 3-tier approach and you can really explode your article marketing.
