The second thing that you’re going to want to look for if you’re attempting to see if the numbers match up for your niche, is that not only you’ve got search volume but that you don’t have too much competition, and the easiest way to find competition is to type in your niche in quotes. So for example if your niche was emotional intelligence, type in “emotional intelligence” in quotes into Google or Yahoo, and what you’re going to find is, they′re going to give you some number of results; I like to think of results as being my competition and if that results number is less than, 20000, then I’ve got a really good shot at being able to be number 1 or number 2 or 3 in my website alone on that webpage. If it’s anywhere from 20000 to 100000, then I’ve got a pretty good shot of getting into the top 10 with articles that I write. And so that’s what I focus on I mean obviously, my niche is list building, article marketing, internet marketing, those are high competition niches.
Why? Because there’s a lot of money in them, and so a lot of people want to compete and try to make money in them, a lot of people will try to stay out of high competition niches because they’re afraid of the competition. What I have found is that if you write articles, that you′re able to drive a lot of good traffic, because the article directories themselves will get the articles that you write, not your website, but the articles that you write, high in the search engines. And when those articles are high in the search engines, then you′re going to get clicks to your website. So in high competition niche, your website may not be number 1, but if your article is number 1, you′re still going to get a lot of traffic, and that’s what’s important.
